  • The Best in the IE. I'm very serious. A lot of sushi restaurants these days have the name "domo" but only one of these restaurants has Jeff: Greatest Sushi Chef in the IE. It's a little hole in the wall place that shares a parking lot with Oasis and although it is small, it is mighty. The decor is quaint and there's a big HD TV above the sushi bar to grab a drink and watch the game or you can just watch Jeff do his thing. Fresh fish and fresh Tomago. Yes, I said fresh, that is, if you can get it. The hours of operation are sometimes hard to remember but it makes the experience that much more satisfying if you go at the right time. Everything there is amazing from the basic sushi and rolls the the elaborate specialty rolls and original creations like the sushi pizza and domo tacos, but I'm going to talk about the trip I took recently. The Samurai Roll is one of the greatest specialty rolls I've ever had. You have to eat it to believe it. Spicy Tuna, cream cheese, eel sauce! SO good. The Passion of the Sea Roll is also amazing, the Mango is really interesting in a good way. And of course, the fresh Tamago. The best I've ever had and probably ever will. If you really want the goods when it comes to sushi, come to Domo Sushi. The customer service could use some work, but Jeff's cheery attitude always makes up for it. Man I love this place. Overall:
  • If you love Mexican food and appreciate the very best in customer service then this is the place for you. (Not to mention they have some of the best margaritas in the IE.) The chips are always fresh and perfectly crispy, the salsa mild yet satisfyingly fresh, the entrees always piping hot and more times than not melty with cheese. I've had many meals there over the years but I think my favorite entree thus far is the seafood enchiladas. Pieces of fish and shrimp wrapped in corn tortillas and covered with an amazing tamatillo sauce and cheese. The waiters are friendly and quick and the atmosphere is perfect for the comfort food you'll be eating. Treat yourself to some good eats. Your fork might even thank you.

Overall:
  • Where do I begin on this disaster known as Okawa? Well, first off, the menu is somewhat deceiving, most menus have a list of what is in each specialty roll, not here, if you want to know the full list of ingredients you better ask, however, don't ask the waitress, she has no idea what's going on. They have no warning about the intensity of sauces they dump on your food and have what I call "flurries of tempura" on everything they serve. The atmosphere would be nicer if they didn't look like they were preparing for a bro down happy hour where d-bags can eat gyoza dumplings and drink budweiser. The calming waterfall wall seemed silly when listening to crappy 90's hip hop. Even the chair I was sitting in was a joke. But back to the food... The fish in the salad seemed a bit off, the miso was underwhelming and the mushroom appetizer was a bit soggy and instantly fell apart. The Baby Lobster Roll, which I thought would be delicious ended up being rubbery. The experience left me so pissed. If asked would I return to this place that dares call itself a sushi joint, I would reply "FORK NO".

Overall:
  • Wahoo's is a restaurant staple in my life. Where ever I live a Wahoo's is either already there or is built shortly after. I was so excited when they finally came out to the IE (after being an OC establishment for decades). The food at Wahoo's is as fun as the decor, there are stickers people plaster all over the walls promoting bands, clothing companies, and anything else you can put on sticky paper. You order your food at the counter, pick a seat, and a friendly staff member brings it out to you. Although they are famous for their fish tacos (which are forktastic!), I decided to go with the Baja Rolls and Shrimp Tacos on this occasion. Baja Rolls (one of my favorites) are chicken, cream cheese, spinach and salsa wrapped in a soft flour tortilla and served cold with dipping sauce. The shrimp tacos are grilled shrimp with cabbage and cheese on corn tortillas. I got the combo with black beans and white rice, both excellently seasoned with herbs and spices. There's something to be said about perfectly grilled shrimp from a moderately fast food place, FORK YEAH!

  • When I first got word of this event, I was like a kid days before Christmas - Dancin' around like I gotta Pee! Then, reality hit and I was remembering past tales of what we used to call "Roach Coaches" - pleasantly this was not the result!!! I arrived a bit late so I had to park about 200 yards away from the Speedzone... my nose could smell the aroma of different flavours as if it was right in front of my gulliver. There were 3 Rig'aurants on my list to hit - "Grill Em All", "Tapa Boy", and the "Lobsta Truck". The lines were insane so I went for the less of 3 leg crampers. Tapa Boy (Filipino Food) it was. By the time I reached the Rapunzel Window, 4 ot of 5 Bowls were 86'd. The Crispy Adobo Bowl won by way of elimination - Chicken Adobo done New School, garlic fried rice, a fried egg, with a side of papaya relish and tomato/cucumber slices. I also ordered a 3 pc Turon "Old School" - Bananna Egg Rolls (rolled in brown sugar w/ a sliver of jackfruit). All were amazing and worth the wait.
  • Next my sweet tooth was kickin' like a newly blessed root canal - sumthin' evil!!! "Longboards Ice Cream" or "Tropical Shave Ice"??? This time I opted for the leg cramper and hit the mile long line @ "Tropical Shave Ice". All I have to say is "Da Kine" - Heavenly!!!
  • So if your first friday is open on your calendar... I highly recommend The Speed Zone Gourmet Food Truck Event. May I add, use this experience to try food you would not venture otherwise. With so much to do and so much to eat this event is great for groups and families. Lace up your Lead Foot and FORKthis Event. Sashimi P.

  • Fresh, excellent portions for sharing, and great customer service. What more could you ask for? Well, I guess I ask a lot out of my sushi spots. This one really has the goods: Tuna that melts in your mouth, a mound of crab on your salad and the hybrid heavenly burrito that really lives up to it's name. Salmon, tuna, crab, and avocado... Pure heaven wrapped in soy paper! The Hawaiian Roll is a california roll topped with tuna and avocado. Yummo! The service was outstanding, the waitress checked up on us frequently to make sure we were content. Sometimes my dining partner and myself were too busy stuffing our faces with amazing sushi to notice her continually clearing the table and refilling our drinks. Great service, great food, great times. Even though you don't use forks here (but of course they're available) this place gets 3!

  • Slippin' into this joint always gives me nostalgitis, the fotos and decor remind me of the first time I opened up my pops steamer chest... without the smell of moth balls. What I do smell, is the savory aroma of peanuts and beer. This place has been known for it's "H & L's Chili Nachos"... but I opted for one of their Heroes Burgers instead ~ the Black & Blue Burger (always medium). It's a blackened patty of beef topped with crumbled Blue Cheese, Jalapeno Mayo, and all the fixin's. Hells Bells Ass Tasty!!! So if you just pulled a 9 hour shift and your near the Claremont area go pull yourself a pint and FORK yourself a H & L Burger. With so much to do in the village your gonna need one of H & L Burgers to get you through the day. Raise your glass and FORKthis Joint. Sashimi P.

Overall:
  • I love this place and come here often. I especially love happy hour because they've developed a menu full of great choices for discounted prices up to half off Monday-Friday 3pm - 6pm (excluding holidays). One of my favorite salads in the world is the Spicy Tuna Salad, the spring mix is fresh and crisp, the tuna has the right amount of spice and I wish I knew the recipe for the dressing because I would drizzle it on everything. The Yellowtail and Salmon were good, I've had better in the area. On the whole their fish is usually fresh, it ranges from being a little tough to melting in your mouth, so I guess it depends on which day you go and at what time. I've always had a pleasant sushi experience here. The Philly Roll is quickly becoming a "go-to" roll whenever I go out for sushi. It's great for sushi beginners and longtime lovers alike. The nice thing about Kubuki's Philly Roll is that it's small and does not overdo it with the cream cheese. Little roll bites make it perfect for sharing. Last, but not least, the Inari Sushi (aka bean curd). I always eat it last because it tastes sweet at the end of the meal. The perfect finish.
  • Customer service could use some work. Some waitresses are really on the ball and it's a fantastic juggling act, others just seem to be confused and run around like chickens with their heads cut off. Sometimes you wait, whether or not it's worth it is your call, it never really bugs me, just be weary of special orders, it may be a while but at least you have a free bowl of edemame in the meantime.
